Cerita dari game ini bersetting di tahun 1980, berfokus pada Artis Jujitsu Muda yang bernama Ryo Hazuki, yang kembali ke Dojo Ayahnya Iwao Hazuki,  dan dengan ironisnya menyaksikan ayahnya yang di bunuh oleh orang Cina yang bernama Lan Di, tujuan utama dari Lan Di ialah mencuri sebuah Artifak misterius yang dikenal sebagai cermin naga yang berada atau disembunyikan oleh ayahnya Ryo Hazuki, Ryo yang begitu marah dan kehilangan karena ayahnya dibunuh oleh Lan Di, akhirnya bersumpah akan membalaskan dendam untuk sang Ayah,
Dan mencari jejak dari Lan Di yang yang pergi.

Game pertama dalam seri ini, dimulai dari kisah Ryo melakukan perjalanan sekitar Yokosuka, Jepang, mengumpulkan petunjuk tentang pembunuhan ayahnya dan berurusan dengan gangster jahat sepanjang jalan.

Dalam Game keduanya, kali ini Ryo menyeberangi laut ke Hong Kong, Cina. Ryo berusaha lebih masuk kedalam dunia kriminal tingkat bawah, pertemuan Master seni bela diri yang membantunya diperjalanannya dan memberi pelajaran agar menjadi kuat dan bisa membalas dendamkan ayahnya, dan mengungkap misteri dari cermin Naga yang disembunyikan ayahnya.
